What is SecurePDFRedactor?
SecurePDFRedactor (securepdfredactor.com) is a free, browser-based PDF redaction tool that permanently destroys sensitive text before you share a document. Redact Social Security numbers, bank account details, legal clauses, medical information, or any other private data — entirely inside your browser, with no file ever leaving your device.
Unlike standard redaction tools that draw a black box over text while leaving the original words intact inside the PDF file, SecurePDFRedactor converts every page into a flat image during export. The text layer is permanently eliminated. There is nothing underneath the redacted areas to select, copy, or extract.
The Problem We Solve
Open any PDF redacted with Mac Preview, a basic online editor, or most free PDF tools. Click on the black redaction box. Press Ctrl+A. Copy and paste into any text editor. In most cases, the hidden text appears in full — Social Security numbers, account numbers, confidential clauses — everything supposedly redacted is perfectly readable.
This happens because these tools apply a cosmetic overlay. The black box is painted on top of the document. The original PDF content stream is untouched.
High-profile legal cases, government document leaks, and corporate data exposures have all occurred because of this exact vulnerability. The problem is not obscure. It is widespread, well-documented, and almost entirely ignored by mainstream PDF tools.
How We Fix It
SecurePDFRedactor uses a process called true rasterization. When you click Flatten and Download, we render each page of your PDF onto an HTML5 canvas element inside your browser. Your redaction boxes are drawn directly onto that canvas as solid fills. The entire canvas — document and redactions together — is then converted into a flat JPEG image. That image is compiled into a brand new PDF document using pdf-lib.
The result is a PDF that contains only images. There is no text layer. There is no content stream. There is no metadata from the original document. What you download is a structurally new file that cannot be reverse-engineered to reveal the redacted content.
